Viewing Grant Proposal: Consumers Energy_Network Geothermal (Planning)
The proposed network geothermal Planning Project supports Public Act 119 of 2023 and objectives of
the MI Healthy Climate Plan including environmental justice, decarbonizing homes and businesses, and
clean innovation energy hubs. The Project seeks to site, configure, model and assess cost and benefits
for a network geothermal system that best supports environmental justice, carbon reduction, energy

I am against providing Consumers Energy additional public funding. They have one of the largest budgets for energy efficiency and renewable energy - with considerable overhead costs. As a leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy, I feel it is inappropriate for MPSC to provide them grant funding, especially considering the amount of unmet needs and funding of DAC projects. Further, there are geothermal trade organizations and engineering firms with geothermal projects already installed, providing more credible information based upon their expertise and experience. This study could be redundant and come at a cost premium.
